Solvent Coatings

Solvent coatings are created and compounded in house. Only a small handful of companies in US have this capability.  Solvent coatings – as well as our marine coatings and performance coatings – are never outsourced. Our coatings process meets environmental standards and certifications. We innovate and create our own chemistries and put compounds together using state of the art equipment with a broad range of textile testing at our Graniteville Specialty Fabrics solvent coatings facility.

Performance coatings and specialty coatings by Graniteville Specialty Fabrics are pigmented and clear. Our custom coatings can be applied to nonwoven and woven fabrics for commercial, specialty, and military end uses (such as our military tentage). Custom coatings can be solvent or water based chemistries which include vinyl, urethane, acrylic, and silicone. The coatings can be made fire retardant to meet a wide range of commercial and military specifications. All of our fire retardant custom coatings are durable and will not wash out or release from the coating. Other specialty coatings by Graniteville Specialty Fabrics include antimicrobial, antifungal, adsorptive carbon, blackout, adhesive, and styrene.

Custom Coatings Lab

We have a development lab and a complete in-process testing lab. Our plant has four custom coating lines with up to 85” greige or uncoated fed in capability. In order to achieve performance levels, the custom coatings are applied with various knife or blade settings as well as fountain, impregnation, spray, and kiss coatings.
